About the Painting

Rolling hills of cultivated grapevines create layers of colors in the landscape, in this painting of California wine country. The impasto brush strokes are thickly applied, without overlapping, creating a mosaic of texture and color across the canvas. This painting captures all the beauty of wine country at dawn.

"Vines at Dawn" is an original oil painting on stretched canvas. The piece arrives framed in a contemporary gold floater frame, ready to hang.

Paintings of Paso Robles
Erin Hanson has been painting the wine country landscapes of Paso Robles, California, for over a decade. Endlessly inspired by Paso's gently rolling hills, ancient oak trees, and pastoral vineyards, Erin Hanson has painted over 250 oil paintings of Paso Robles. You can see her Paso collection here.

Wine country paintings are perfect for anyone who loves the iconic landscapes where grapevines grow. Often nestled near a coastline, with hills and coastal mountains, oak trees and evergreens, viticultural landscapes are some of the most beautiful landscapes an artist can find to paint. Erin Hanson has three collections in her portfolio for lovers of wine country: The Wine Country Collection, The Vineyard Collection, and The Oaks and Hills Collection.

Erin Hanson's original oil paintings often sell before they are dry, but most of her work are available as canvas prints or limited edition 3D Textured Replicas. If you have your heart set on a one-of-a-kind, original oil painting by Erin Hanson, write us a message here at The Erin Hanson Gallery, and we will keep you informed when Erin releases new works.

What is Open Impressionism?
Erin Hanson has created a unique style of painting in oils called "Open Impressionism." Her paintings immediately catch the eye because of their vibrant colors and expressive brush strokes. She creates her landscapes with a limited palette of only 5 colors, and using these 5 primary colors she pre-mixes her entire palette (over a hundred individual hues) before she ever picks up a brush. Next, she applies the paint with a confident, experienced hand, placing the paint exactly where it belongs on the canvas, and trying not to over any part of the canvas more than once. This unique method of painting in oils, without any layering, creates a stained glass or mosaic effect in her paintings. The final result is a vibrant painting that captures the landscapes she loves.

Erin Hanson ArtistERIN HANSON has been painting in oils since she was 8 years old. As a young artist, she worked at a mural studio creating 40-foot-tall paintings on canvas, while selling art commissions on the side. After getting a degree in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley, Erin became a rock climber at Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. Inspired by the colorful scenery she was climbing, she decided to paint one painting every week for the rest of her life. She has stuck to that decision ever since, becoming one of the most prolific artists in history. Erin Hanson's style is known as "Open Impressionism" and is now taught in art schools worldwide.
